Mount St. Helens - 39 Years Later

When Mount St. Helens erupted in 1980 we were awe-struck at the powerful forces causing such destruction in our back yard. During the 39 years since, scientists and visitors have had the unique opportunity to observe nature’s healing powers. Our trip to the Mount St. Helens National Park will show us how much has recovered and how much of the landscape is forever changed. We’ll travel to the south side of the park along the Lewis River to the Ape Caves Lava Tube for a peek at the longest lava tube in North America, before settling in at the Red Lion in Kelso. A full day at the Mount St. Helens National Park will take us into the past through the cataclysmic eruption, and forward to a close up view of how the mountain looks today. That evening we will change pace and take a relaxing ride on the Chehalis-Centralia Railroad for an elegant dinner train experience through the Chehalis Valley. On our return journey we will stop at the Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge for a look at the on-going efforts to restore the area’s native species. This fascinating getaway includes 2 nights at the Red Lion Kelso, 5 meals (including the dinner train), and all park entrance fees.
