Shore Acres Christmas Lights

Join us for one of our favorite holiday traditions, the festive display of over 300,000 LED lights at the breathtaking cliff side Shore Acres Garden near Coos Bay. At this former estate of a lumber baron, Christmas becomes a holiday fantasyland. Leisurely stroll paths ablaze with color, enjoy the holiday atmosphere with cider and cookies (optional) for a small donation from the gift shop. On our return, enjoy a fabulous meal at the Coach House in Coos Bay. Be sure to eat lunch before beginning this tour. We'll brief stop in Florence for a snack break on our way to Shore Acres.

Join us for the Northwest Senior Theatre's Holiday show. Located at the Alpenrose Dairy Opera House in Portland, the theatre is presenting "It's Christmas Time", a musical variety show produced by singers, dancers, actors, musicians and stage folk that are all 55 plus. They'll provide us with an afternoon of costumes, scenery, music, dancing, skits and merriment. The new Cracker Barrel in Tualatin will be our next stop for an early dinner.

The self proclaimed "Kitchen Ninjas" showcase their talents and present us with a culinary feast. We then visit OMSI to experience the splendor of Ancient Rome and travel back in time to 79 A.D. when Pompeii bustled as a commercial port and strategic military and trading city. Pompeii: The Exhibition features a 4D theater experience and nearly 200 artifacts, including frescoes, mosaics, and precious items belonging to the residents of Pompeii.

OMSI Solar Eclipse

On August 21, 2017, Oregon will be the first to see the total eclipse of the Sun. This rare event occurs when the moon passes between the sun and the earth and the moon hides the solar surface. It darkens the whole sky and shows you the beautiful corona that surrounds the sun. Stars come out, the horizon glows with a 360-degree sunset, the temperature drops, and day turns into night. The OMSI hosted event at the Oregon State Fairgrounds will celebrate the unique experience of complete darkness for close to two minutes. The Solar Eclipse Viewing Party will include viewing glasses, science lectures, astronomy-related community groups, entertainment, food booths and more. We’ll stop for lunch as we head home.
